Help! backfires through the carburettor!

Have you got the plug leads on right?.........just a thought. I had one on the wrong one and it backfired and ran like a pig......unsurprisingly. :D

If backfiring through the carb then spark occuring whilst inlet valve is open. defo check HT leads on right plugs.

Check (or better still change), the rubber elbows on the balance pipe (the steel pipe that runs anlong the back of the engine between the inlet manifolds.

I've had exactly those symptoms and it was the rubber elbow (mine wa the right one had caused the right choke to jam) letting in too much air and messing up the mixture/power etc.
