Indicator repeater light problem

Post by madmyk »

1.6 TD 1986 Westie LHD. Has a towbar repeater light fitted (which works fine) in addition to normal dashboard one.

Symptoms:
Inst cluster removed/refitted, all working previously.
Hazard lights work fine, as does repeater.
indicators work, repeater does not.
Repeater bulb checked ok.

Since then (yesterday):
Hazard lights work fine, repeater does not.
indicators work, repeater does not.
Repeater bulb checked ok.

Have tried:
Cleaning hazard light switch contacts.
Replacing hazard light switch (no difference, swopped back).
Wiggling wires.
Checked old threads on search.
Hazard relay appears to be working, and appears to work when indicators used, but no repeater light.

Have not tried:
Cleaning earth contacts.
Replacing indicator relay.

Questions:
Any ideas?
Which relay is the hazard relay? (Seems to be the far right relay on mine, nearest to RH side of van).

Appreciated guys, :)

Myk.

Indicator repeater light problem

Post by meggles »

Hi Myk, it might be contamination from rubbers! ( Joking).
Have you tried cleaning the earth on the tow bar socket? I think it is a white wire but not sure. The reason I say that is because I remember on my LT28 I had a similarish problem and I remember taping a white wire alongside the harness rather than replacing the lot, and I always try to keep the same wiring colours (if you see what I mean).
Just a thought!

Meggles thanks for that, its the one thing I aint tried yet. Update:

Cleaned all earths, harness to steering wheel, harness to fuse box, harness to inst panel. Replaced relay (no change), replaced hazard switch (no change), wiggled everything I could wiggle

Symptoms as before, but noticed that hazard repeater does not flash if ignition on.

Any pointers would be gratefully recieved.

(Bodged it temporarily so I can get MOT and get to Dubfreeze, baring other snags)

Thanks chaps, Myk. :)
