any suggestions anyone 1988 1.6 TD LHD - i checked oil and water levels today for first time since getting van in oct - i only use the van once or twice a week and the longest drive has been from lancaster to notts when i got the van - all other journeys pretty short.....both were fine when i picked van up. oil level is fine but water/coolant disappeared is this a van thing or a diesal thing or something to worry about the engine starts well and sounds fine on driving. after a bit in neutral it's very shaky like it wants to part from the van and run off mmm what do you think!!!
Would check fuel and air filters first for uneven idle followed by a good dose of injector cleaner.
Water should'nt be disappearing though. Could be a faulty cap on expansion tank, try renewing and see how it goes from there.
Carry container of water with you just in case until this is cleared up though!
Check all hose connections eg. look for scale around pipe fittings etc. and check for water dripping down when engine is hot.

Have to give mine a little top up about once a month. Have no idea where it's going but it's going all the same.
Has no effect on the running of the van tho.
