Air Cooled Fuel Pump

On the bottom of the fuel pump is a bit of pipe. The inlet and outlets are on the top so I'm guessing that it's something else, a pressure relief outlet or something. Does anyone know what it is as I can't find anything in the Haynes about it, and also, is it supposed to have a piece of pipe on it that goes through the engine covers towards the cylinder head? I've left it pointing to the ground at the moment, just in case. Cheers in anticipation.

The pipe is to the air space on the diaphram bellow on the fuel pump for negative preasure .The pipe should not be blocked and is routed through the tinware near the cylinder.It some times leaks a little fuel but its not a problem if its only a small amount.

It vents the fuel pump below the diaphragm. If you do have fuel coming out there, the pump is knackered. There may be a little oil from it. The oil travels up the push rod, and if it was allowed to build up, would have wierd effects on the diaphragm. Which is why they let it drain off a bit.

Nice one, but is it supposed to have a rubber pipe on the end that goes through the tinware into the heat area near the cylinder head? I suspect it is because there is a hole there, but if anybody knows any different I'd be gratefull. And alive!
