Sitting comfortably

Post by Bensdad »

Need some advice on bench seating in the cab of a T25.
Are there seats that are a 2+1 or a bench completely across, or do both exist?
Does the 2+1 have 3 seat belts and are they 2 x 3point and 1 lap belt?
Do more modern designs fit? Has anyone fitted a modern 2+1 from a vito, etc. with the built in 3 point belts.
Any advice or musings gratefully accepted.

Would be interested to see if you could fit a modern set of seats in.

The T25 3 seat set up is a single plus a double seat. The double uses the standard seat runners and can be moved back and forth. The piggy inthe middle has a lap belt.

As far as my collection of old catalogues goes, there's never been a full-width bench seat available ex-factory on the T3.

As Louey says, the VW 3-seat option consisted of a standard driver's seat and a 2-seat passenger seat (if you see what I mean...). If you have a Caravelle, or a camper converted from a Caravelle, your best bet for obtaining a 2-seat passenger seat is to shop around at the VW breakers; quite a few vans had them fitted (they're more popular in the UK than elsewhere; presumably due to the uniquely English "one bloke digging the hole, his three team colleagues providing moral support, his line manager on-site but on the phone" effect), so it shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to find one if you need one, unless your van is LHD.

Speaking from my own experience, the 3-seat option prevents easy movement from the cab to the loadspace. My 'Velle has 2 captain's chairs, which means it's easy to walk between them and attend to the dog/make a brew/relax on the middle seat at a service station without a steering wheel in the way, without stepping outside the van. Fitting a 3-seat option prevents this, which means you'll have to get out and walk around to the side door if you want to get through to the back. Doesn't sound like much of a hassle, but add a UK-spec persistent rain and it becomes a bind.

thanks for the replies.

With one young un and 2 more on the way I don't have the luxury of space for 3 child seats and will have to get wet wandering round to the sliding door.

At least i get to spend some happy hours at the scrap yard, might just find a modern 2+1 setup with integral belts that can be made to fit.
