Water Pipes

Hello all, still in the process of putting a V8 into the back end of the wagon,as it was Aircooled i am having to install a radiator anf all the pipes that go with it. My question is i have all the pipes rad ect, but i haven`t a clue which path the are supposed to go,i have removed all the old Aircooled stuff, do the rad pipes go where the air ducts used to go?
As always any help or advice greatfully recived.

they should run next to the right hand chassis leg.

Is that on the inside or the outside of the chasis leg?

Thanks for the info, on a similsr vain, i offered the radiator up into the apeture for it yesterday,but cant seem to get it past the ring that stops the spare wheel escaping,does anyone know if i have to take it that bit out or if it does indeed come out?

It is not a job I have (yet) had to do but Mr. Haynes says.....

1. Remove spare wheel and spare wheel carrier. The carrier supports are secured by hairpin clips that can be prised out with a screwdriver.

2. Remove the undertray from below the radiator, this is secured by two self tapping screws.

Thanks Mike, i only have an Aircooled book which is now obsolete as the V8 adapter parts should turn up in a few days.

Reminds me.... working in Capetown during the time when sanctions were being imposed and petrol was in short supply.

One of the young employees who was late arriving for work said she had run out of fuel and quoted a very low MPG figure for her car.

'Blimey what are you driving a V8?'

'No a VW!!'

Mmmmmm!!! I think maybe Mr Haynes was having an off day,still cant get the damn thing out,time for the hacksaw me thinks.
Also does anyone have a pic of where these water pipes go? I still cant work it out.

I have a pair of the pipes that go from front to back (plastic). If you want or need them you can have them for what I paid. Im also in Bristol.

Thanks i`ve got all the bits from T25 diesel pick up, just haven`t worked out where they go yet. The ones i have are steel pipes so will radiate a bit more heat from the engine.

I hope this photo helps. It was taken from underneath the front of the van with the spare wheel holder removed. The radiator and two hoses have also been removed but you can see the end of the plastic coolant pipes that come from the engine and connect to the radiator hoses.



As for getting the spare wheel holder out, removing the rusty circlips took me a good while but once they're off it's not too bad.
