Caravan heater any good in Camper?????

Hi all,
I'm still converting my Transporter into a Camper.

I purchased a Caravan and took all the usual stuff out if it:cooker, fridge and heater.

Everthing was going good till i realised the heater may not be safe in the Van????

Its a Calor Convector Heater, which i think may need loads and loads of ventalation??
Problem is my Van ain't got any roof vents being a tin top.

Has anyone had any experience in fitting this sort of heater ?? Or is it a big No No??

If it isn't safe ,whats the cheapest heating system i can buy and is it really worth all this hassle to fit a heater

camper is a caravan with wheels, as long as you install it as per the original, and have it checked by a competant gas man you should be fine. Easiest install imho is a propex (£400+ new) lpg powered 2k of heat, worth it if you use the van during the colder months or you or other half is ness.

You're correct Camper is Caravan with wheels, but the inside area of my Camper is less than half the size of the Caravan it came out of.

Which is why i think it will need more ventilation as there is nowhere for the carbon monoxide to escape, as the heater has no exhaust vent etc.

As for the Propex heater i would love one but cash flow is not too good at the mo...seen some on ebay going for £250ish,

Any heater that produces carbon monoxide and vents it inside the vehicle presents a threat of poisoning.This is common knowledge and dosnt need much explaining .Propex and others that have a combustion chamber separate to the heated air remove carbon monoxide & exhuast gases to the outside of the vehicle .Also a deliver of a fresh supply of air to the inside of the vehicle( OXYGEN ) is part of the process of heating the vehicle.A safe installation should have no carbon monoxide that could be breathed.My advice is this if you want to wake up in the morning think carefully about your requirements.

Grun, my heater doesn't need holes cutting in floor for flue/vent.
The caravan it came out of had no holes appart from the one the gas line came from under the floor.
Will try take some pics after work tomorrow, so you all have a better idea.
This heater in the thread looks like a safer version to the one i have... might have a look in ebay see if i can find one..Thanks

I haven't come across this heater before but on the basis of what you've said about it, I'd bin it and look for an alternative. It's just not worth taking the chance, the risk is too great. Use a portable camping heater (electric or gas, depending on who's in the van with you and if you do your camping on a site, or prefer wild camping) until you can splash out on a propex or eber.

I have heard our vans referred to as 'Adolfs revenge' so perhaps best not to risk turning one into a mobile gas chamber!!
