petrol gauge dead!

Latest problem... petrol gauge has just failed. Was OK last time I used it, honest. It's got petrol in and I'm now driving based on milage and amount of fuel put in! I'm going to run out I just know it!!!

The rest of the gauges work on this side of the dash though the clock failed some time back.

Can anyone give me any pointers on how to trouble shoot, safely?

pull off mutli plug , spray of electrical cleaner , push on firmly in place . might solve it and be an easy fix , especially if other bits on the dash dont work
