Hi Guys,
With my double slider hi-top, i have a small removable cooker unit, with gas bottle inside.
If me & missus go out in the van we normally leave the unit in the van. If others are with us, we unclip the unit & put it in one of the awnings. We also have a separate sink unit & do same with that.
I have bought a secondhand combi, sink, drainer, cooker & grill all in one & plan to build a unit around it.
The cooker we have at present is a Devon built unit & very heavy. So I'm looking for quality material that is not too heavy, wont swell & split if it gets wet etc. I was going to get an oak veneered ply & use that & build sliding doors in it. & lime wash it to make it a nice light color & then matt varnish.
I am still gonna have it removeable, so gas tank & water tank will be inside it. (is it allowed to have gas tank like that now, if vent is installed?0.
Also any tips on where to get decent stainless steel sheeting to line inside of cooker lid/splashback so it dont burn the wood.??
Thanks Kev
Ps see my avatar is what we have at present & most likely will be flogging it when I've built my new one.

Howzit Kev,
Sorry I can't answer your question but I too have a Devon twin slider and have bought a hightop which I hope to have fitted before the summer. I have a problem with what to use as cooker unit and sink unit. I have storage by way of a unit with plastic bins I bought from Ikea. Serves its purpose with portable gas cooker etc.
To get to the point would be interested in your old units when you change them. Would be grateful for a pm when you are ready with price.
Cheers,
Howard.

the best material is marine Plywood. it is light and has some degree of water/moisture repulsion. What ever you do, avoid chipboard or MDF. For the stainless, I'm not sure, ask some of the interior specialists like Calypso or Timbertechs (have a a search on here for links).
I've got a twin slider Devon (about to be pop top) and I have a unit that runs the width of the van - it does mean I've lost my walkthrough but my choice.
