Seat 1y 19 diesel oil switch?

Hi all,

New van on the block here with me first posting so hope this one ain't too bad to start with!? Quick thanks by the way too to everyone that's contributed to this site (it's fab!) as the info given here was invaluable when we bought our first van, so was much appreciated, ta very much all!

Question is though? Got a Seat Toledo 1.9, 1Y diesel engine stuck in our '84 LHD van. Had a few probs with oil pressure diode light switch on dash. Went to check/clean the senders at the engine end as matter of course, but the low pressure switch on the cylinder head looked like it isn't/has never been connected and the only wire that has been giving the signal was from the high pressure one on the oil filter?

Can you get away with this normally (although we have been for last year or so!), or should both always be connected? Has been working fine with just the one though to date.

Any answers/thoughts would be much appreciated volks.

I would have thought low oil pressure was worse than high pressure, although either can do signifigant damage. I would imagine both should be connected.

Thanks for reply Ross. Think you're probably right, 2 is better then 1 and perhaps it's been a case of ignorance has been bliss!

It may have been dicsonnected to get rid of the buzzer of doom.

Mine is connected, but sometimes the buzzer comes briefly on after slowing down from a long run.

Im not bothered because there's not much i can do about it. Everything sounds sweet - if the engine goes i'll just change it.....

We've done about x2k on this engine (still under 12k warrenty) and had the 'buzzer of doom' senario come on a recent short trip, but it still runs sweet at mo with no obvious issues that have become apparent like a siezed engine!

So like yourself, will just keep on motoring and turning up the radio!... - mind you might give them electrics a bit of clean on the dash pod as this seems to be more the likely the culprit?!
