Post by Chilla »

Have a 1Y which came without a vacuum pump. Can I interchange with the vacuum pump off a 1.6 SB. Anyone know ?

Also, what does this component actually do

thanks in advance

the 1.6 and 1.9 vacume pumps have different size boddies, the 1.9 pump is bigger just around the base so a 1.6 pump will fall into the block of the 1.9!
about 6 mm diammeter hole bigger!
rest of the pump is the same and other parts apart from the cast body,

it draws air from the take off pipe, thus sucking air from the servo for the brakes creating a vacume , ie vacume pump.

try with the engine off pump the brake pedal about 10 times, then press the pedal and hold it whilst starting the engine, the pedal should drop a bit, this is due to vacume . the servo assists adding pressure when you press the pedal!
