Pressure in the sump?

Post by fergus77 »

Right,

got my 1Y running thanks to Andy and i'm pressing on with sorting out the water leaks in it.

had it running today and noticed a few bubbles coming from where the dipstick enters the block/ sump.

Now, i know there maybe a blockage in the breather pipe but what other problems could cause this pressure build up?

It's not blowing out oil, just a few bubbles indicating a build up of pressure.

Cheers guys and gals :)

Unblock the breather pipe if you think it`s blocked, then see if you get anything out of the dipstick tube (which you shouldn`t, that`s what the breather is for)
Keep it real.

As above check breathers, try removing oil cap and see if it cures it.

I had a blockage on the breather (2.1DJ)
it caused oil to blow out of the crank pulley oil seal.
Also oil was being splashed out of the oil filler when I removed the top.

cheers lads, will give it a go and see what happens.

Any other issues that might cause that to happen?

Worn bores or piston rings. How many miles has it done?

to be honest Andy i don't know, i knew nothing about the engine apart from that it had blown before i bought it.

Makes me think i should have stuck a set of rings into her before putting the head on

I'll give the old breather pipes trick a try and hopefully nothing else pops up

Is it hard to put a set of plastic flow and return pipes into these vans? Mines leaking like hell but managed to get hold of a set of plastic ones for £30!!
