caravelle r&r bed

Post by Frostbus »

have fitted a factory r&r bed in the velle this came with a lower panel made from ply to finish off, thing is with the ply floor already fitted to the bus (genuine) the finishing panel is to high to fit under the bed.

does the ply floor finish up to this point on busses with this bed (the finishing panel is the thickness of the floor to high)or do i cut down the finishing panel(sorry need to take pictures to show what i mean)

cheers again guys
honestly darling it wont cost much to fix.

r&r bed

Post by meggles »

Hi, Don't know if this will help but I have just refitted my van floor and r&r bed. I got it all finished and then lay on the bed. Back ache!! Why not fit all the stuff, try laying on it and then trim off as necessary! It's easier to take a bit off than to add a bit! if you can't complete 'til it's all put together, why not try leaving it all loose (ie: not screwed down) until you are sure!
Again, not sure if this will help, hope it does!

"Caravelles" NEVER had a ply floor... carpet with a thick insulation under it...
Sounds like you need to trim the panel to fit, thats easier... or make a new panel to fit...

My early velle has a ply covered with some kind of hard plasticcy composite, very likely factory as perfect fit with perfect holes in all the right places, my late velle has spongy stuff that fits into floor pattern and would have had carpet over it.

Carat model caravelles def have a factory fitted ply floor, its a sod to get out if you need to, think they must have done it to hide the substantial metal bases that the rotating middle seats were fixed to, and maybe to keep it all on one level instead of a step down between cab and rear, the ducting for the factory Eber is under there too. it rests on about 4 lengths of timber if i remember right, poss some other 'velles had one as well.

It clips over the end of the seat pin when in the bed position so no sharp edges !!

Thanks - good idea to protect the end of the locking rods ... I guess these fail quite quickly if they are used a lot so not often found on T25's... I will have to improvise with something else! Blue Peter time!

I have now completed my installation of the bed seat. Here is a write up of how I moved the headrests onto the bed seat from my original Caravelle seat
