Basis cylinder head value timing

Post by fergus77 »

Hey chaps, right, installing my recon head and just to check, the way your get the basic timing is to turn the cam till the lobes on no one cylinder are pointing upwards. Is that right? Can't really remember but sounds right

Get Pistons 1&4 at top dead centre with V notch and pointer on flywheel lined up together seen through the bung hole flywheel gearbox bell housing .Cam lobes for 1&4 should be pointing at 10 oclock& 2oclock.Ensure the camwheel gear sprocket is loose on its taper ie undo the 18mm bolt .Engage specific locking plate tool to the rear of the camshaft which has a slot.I would advice you to read up and get it right before setting the cam/engine timing.Or catastropic engine damage will occur.

Thanks camper, that worked a treat. Head on and just needs torquing up and plumbing in for the cooling and fuel. Going to use the torque setting andy simpson posted on my other post. Cheers again and will post when it's running, hopefully
