which diesel engine

just got a pickup which is supposed to have a 1.9td aaz engine in it. started life as a 1.6td, not sure if it is 1.9 or 1.6 :? . i need to strip of the outer metal work stuff and service it anyway, is there any way to tell the 2 apart if i struggle to find engine number

:shock: :shock: easy to find just look at left hand side of engine block looking from underneath you will see a big stamped number in block casting it,l tell you 1.6D or 1.9D :shock:

just to add as well, check just below the third cylinder by the injector for a flat part cast into the block, the engine number will be on that and tell you what it is.

I had the same problem with my new van, didn't know what engine was in it and needed to get a replacment head for it. A lot of rubbing with emery cloth and wire brushing was needed to get the engine number out as there usually rusted right over.

Def more economical than a bay, my old bay used to do about 15 mpg, must have been the wet westsuits in the back and the ferrals i picked up along the way :lol: :lol:

no wetsuits in the back of this just gates, railings and vw parts 8)

finally took off the heat shields/splash pans from under the engine....wahoo it is a 1.9 :D ...boohoo got to do some work on exhaust and fix about 4 oil leaks :roll: ho hum

i think a working V dub has to have at least 1 oil leak, otherwise there would be nothing left to do on them :lol:

my 1Y has 2 leaks..
