tick noise

van seems to have developed an intermittent kind of tick noise when the wheels go round. only hear this when its going slowly. Don't notice it all the time. not any better or worse going round corners. Not sure if its mainly when it been on a run in the rain???? (so much rain recently it could be coinicidence) It almost sounds as if there was a bottle top stuck on one of the wheels and ticking as it hits the ground. Tyres look fine. think its coming form drivers side but not 100% sure.

Not a right lot to go on i know.

any ideas?

I'd check for a screw or nail Kathy, the head may be virtually worn away so look closely ..... we wouldn't like it to suddenly blow out

Kathy I had a tick ijn the summer and it got louder .....When I finally got to Steve (Gasure) with it the rear drivers side center nut had started to come loose.....get it checked out hun......My wheel was nearly off

When next you here the tick, check that your speedo needle isn't twitching in time to the tick...T25 speedo cables are prone to cause just such a distraction at low speeds. Mine has a tick, and has had, for the lst 6 years.

Easily sorted Kathy....Get her jacked up and see if any play in the wheels....Then you can check also if there are any nails/screws/stones stuck in the tread, but check them all, sounds tend to travel......Good luck

had another look. can't see anything wrong with tyres. not got a jack here though tolift it up. Took the van for a drive around the block and no ticking noise. checked all nuts on wheels and they seem fine. i did notice though that on the front drivers side wheel, when i removed the hub cap the black centre cap thing fell off. It has a load of grease inside it and on the centre of the wheel etc. the centre cap thing (sorry don't know name of it) does look like its taken a knock at some point as its dinted and slightly split. could this cause it? I have just put it back on and the grease has kind of suctioned it back on now, and the hubcap is over the top of it......

Kathy , its the protecting plate thats behind the brake disc, or should be cos they rust and fall off , or get taken off cos they drop and catch on the wheel ,
jack it up and with the wheel on , get down and look behind the wheel and spin it , you may be able to see marks on the inner of the wheel .....

mine went in France , and Katy (8) sorted it ... cos i'd taken the wheel off and the ticking stopped

and she said put the wheel back on daddy and then the noise came back

just to add, i had the same sort of ticking coming from an old T25 westy a few years ago, as mentioned in one of the following posts the speedo cables sometimes give out a similar noise. Mines needed a wee slap to the dash surround and bobs your uncle, no ticking

that would be the dust cap, usually has lots of dents in it cos the garage prefered method of removal of these things is with a large hammer, it could have been tapping in the hub cap or wheel at low speed cos there was not enough centrifugal force to hold it, shove it back on and tapit with the hammer to make sure it is home!
