worst 25mpg
regulay get 30mpg and i live in hilly hilly hilly cornwall. its very hilly!
dont expect better then 35mpg even on a long run from a camper of any kind.
camping vans wiegh near as makes no diffrence 2 tonnes. thats a lot of weight for a little 1.6 n/a diesel.
azz and deffantly direct injection engins get slightly better mpg.

Its big, Its Blue, Its mine!
I gotta 1600 D Hi-top, twin slide..on the Somerset flats it will give me 38 mpg, but like "Otherpower" sez, if I got down to Exmoor or Cornwall I leave snail trials and the mpg will drop, I usaully keep my tank low & dump water otherwise those hills...I'm in 1st on some, with missus out back pushing...
My 2008 resolution is to sell the engine & go for something with more pull. Otherwise I will keep missing the events as they are over by the time ya get there.

I'm guessing being a 1990 1.6 it'll be a turbo? Mines a turbo and manages to nock 40mpg on a nice flat motorway motorway run at 60mph, about as fast as its happy with (its a tin top syncro so probubly not the best for economy but has about as higher top gear as possable for a stock diesel). Normal use is more like 35mpg but drops closer to 30 if its doing alot of hills/laneing/loadlugging - anything that gets the turbo really boosting alot.
