AAZ or TDI???? identification help please

HI
I have a j reg golf. badged CL TDI
the engine code on the log book starts AAZ?? which makes it a TD im told??
how can i tell which it is ??

Tdi's in golfs did not come out untill 94. Td will have an accelerator cable going to pump, tdi will not. AAZ is td

AAZ known as an IDI engine. (Indirect injection)

Sound like some character has just stuck a TDI badge onto a non-TDI car. J-Reg is a *very* early Mk.3, so will have an early design AAZ.
