I see the dakar rally has been cancelled - shame I was looking forward to watching on eurosport in this cold january. Always next year I suppose

terrorist threat, a couple of stages last year got cancelled for the same reason, think we might never see the dakar race these routes again[img][/img]

Four (French) tourists were killed in Mauratania on Xmas Eve by people claiming links to Al-Qaeda.

Apparently threats were also made directly to the event:

Lots of people on their way or there before 1 day cancellation notice is announced. Wonder how much money was spent in the last week by participants and spectators? And that doesn't even take into account all the other reservation deposits and fees paid weeks and months ago.... or year of expenditures prepping vehicles. Real bummer.
