Is it possible to do that on a 1.9 water cooled? I keep reading things which seem to imply that you shouldn't mess with the carbs as they are too complicated with vacuum pumps and all sort of things I don't understand.........

Carb Tweak??
I have a feeling that my carb is running a bit rich. In the old days of my Morris 1100 I used to just turn a screw a quarter of a turn to make it leaner.

Thanks! Good point about the air filter. I have had the vehicle three months and probably done around 1000 miles but I don't know when it was changed before that. I guess it's probably a good idea to change it now then at least I know.
I thought the carb tweak may be too difficult. Thanks for your help.

in the good old days before emmissions laws and co meters we used to set the mixture up by listening to the engine. it's not that difficult but hard to explain if you don't know how to do it. krypton tuning took over from that method in the eighties but of course it cost money so i just carried on with the old way by ear.
however i feel i should point out that the mixture screw you alter only affects things at idle and up to around 1/4 throttle at which time the main jets take over.
