Peugeot 2.1td in T25

Post by youthy giblets!!! »

Just started this bus really sorting a few nasty bits out and fitting a 2.1 peugeot td engine using a Famous Phil kit.

Image

Some people just dont know what they are doing, about 12mm of filler on this panel and behind all the bodge the panel is as straight as a die, new outer sill been fitted and repair made to middle panel.

Picked this up today for the engine transplant, Citroen XM with 2.1 Peugeot Turbo Diesel To go in the bus, Making slow progress but ill get there in the end

Why not stick a vw tdi in, it would be easier and with better results.

i dont beleive in any way the performance will be better!
have you see the pics of my conversion?
if done correctly you will wonder why anyone fits anything else!
40 mpg between 60-70 mph high top camper fully loaded? how does that compare to an aaz running an aap box and 195 /80/15 rear wheels?
show me a vw motor with 300000 plus miles on without rebuild!

The pug has pathetic low down torque
Seen pics and actual conversion
I have yet to see one done correctly, seen some proper horrors
40mpg at 70 in a high top no way
when was AAZ mentioned? i suggested tdi
Show me a pug engine with original head at 300000miles

Ive got a mint 1.9tdi engine and loom in my shed, decided against it because of cost and all the unreliable electrics, The tdi is only 90bhp and the peugeot 2.1 110bhp as for a vw 1.9td non tdi engine, i think id rather stick wasps up a***
So im fitting the 2.1 engine It will keep you all in laughs for months, until i pass ya sat on the hard shoulder picking pieces of piston up

Only bonus to the tdi for me is that it fits under the engine lid, but Wheres the fun in that

As for the non tdi engine, no vw ve pump tdi will ever get near whatever mods are done, no pug diesel full stop will get near it.

Make the tdi an mtdi, it will then need less wires than the pug.

plenty of pugs have the original heads at 300000!
i have receipts to prove mpg , from our summer trip which totaled 3700 miles and lots of motorway driving
my current one is getting 32 at 75/80 as ive just done 2 airport runs but this has its pump timing out from when i changed the pumps ,as it smokes bad under load
not overly botherd tho as my 2 vans have recon engines ready to be fitted, for no oter reason than the new motors were at an offer not to be missed!
i can drive a petrol van in and drive it out 2 days later as a pug diesel !
my van pulls nicely from about 1500 rpm and the turbo starts to pull at 2000rpm
and the pug loves veg oil!

The lad that makes my plates has been making them for 15years, no problems yet, Standard vw crank bearing etc, As for miss aligned have you been mislead? Theres arguments to all conversions, but you cant get much simpler than the 2.1 engine, a live to the solenoid on the pump and it runs. To be honest ive never been in a tdi bus but many pug ones so thats what im going with

This one must of been the first badly aligned one then? The standard of them conversions is very poor.

I would suggest you have a go in a tdi first, they are far superior in low down torque and general smoothness.

The pug needs glow plugs, the mtdi does not.

As i say its down to cost overall, my van has a 1700d lump in at the moment so glow plugs not an issue.

I looked into tdi conversion, phil packman told me standard vw clutch wouldnt last so new input shaft needed, wiring loom from car needed modifacation or mtdi all at a cost, also bad torque curve at high revs on tdi so gearing not good. There are lots of conversion kits kicking about some really gash i agree. Where did you see a badly aligned one from Famous Phil?

Standard diesel input shaft works fine with the tdi parts, Mtdi is not exspensive.
