Having driven approx 40 motorway miles I noticed a noise from rear inside wheel. When I pulled over it was smooking badly, lots of lubricant on the inside of the rear wheel.
The van will no not engage in gear??
Under next day inspection I noticed missing nuts that attach cv Joint to rear hub area, 1983 Joker Van any advice as to the cause of the problem/solution would be most welcome, as you can gague I am pretty useless with mechanics and the chap I use is not back until 2 week in the new year.
Anyone recommend a good mechanic Whitstable/Canterbury area?
Many Thanks

now, if the drive shaft isnt connected to the roadwheel, the diff will not let the van move, its sending the drive the path of least resistance.
exactly what you have damaged im not sure, but thats how i read it from your description......

well as Mocki says if the driveshaft is not connected to the wheel it wont move.
when you say not engaging...do you mean not engaging 1st gear or any gear
hand brake on put it in any gear release the clutch slowly have someone look under the van to see if the drive shafts are rotating.
reasons why it won't engage any gears are clutch failure , gearbox seized, or linkages broke.
where have the bolts been lost ...nearest the trans or near the roadwheel
