Hi all, My van drives like a dream but of late the temp light comes on when starting (as it should ) but instead of settleing down to just before half way the needle go's to the far right (as if over heating) After about a mile or two it settles down to half way.
this is new to the van as it's always done the quick red light flash (as it should) and settled down after about 5 - 10 seconds.
I drove over 300 mile last weekend with no problems (after the temp gauge and Red light had settled, 1-2 mile)
Sorry to sound long winded. Any help would be great as im a bit crap on the tools. Sherlock

A quick update ive just been out in the van and the light seems to come on for even longer periods before settling down. And for no reason shoots up into the red again for 5 mins or so before going down again.
Thanks to all. no im not loosing any coolant.
Mocki... not sure if the heater goes cold 3 mins after gauge shoots to the hot (will check out in the morn)
Coolent level is still up ( in the top up pot)
Sukhoi27...where are the connectors on the sender (in fact where is the sender) if I can find them I will give them a clean up.

Mine has developed the exact same symptoms over the last week
Tonight I started her up, and ran her with the coolant tank cap removed. After about 15 minutes she was warmed up and there was such a glug which I presume was an airlock, the coolant level dropped and so I topped it up.
I put the cap back on and ran it around for another 20 mins or so and all seems well
Silly answer I know but worth a check... The waters not freezing is it? Would give you those symptoms exactly from what I can work out. Check antifreeze levels to be sure.
Mark.

Most of you guys said check the water level. And my reply was checked it out and all is good. But all I did was check out the top up tank and not the main water tank. I always thought that if you keep the top up tank topped up thats all you need to do. I opened the engine hatch to find that the main water tank was only half full(however the top up tank was looking full) so I topped up the main tank and all was sorted within seconds. Is that right ????? or should the top up tank keep the main tank full at all times ???
