expansion tank fitting

Hi just trying to fit a new expansion tank 1.9 turbo diesel . Had a hard time getting the hoses off the old one and snapped one of the hose/clamps. Had to refit the hose useing screw tightening type clamps as couldnt get hold of original type off clamp. On testing the hoses seem to be leaking round clamps tried to tighten but no joy. Question does anyone know what the original type clamps are called and do you need a special tool to fit remove . thanks dave ps sorry its a long one

should be fine with a screw type clamp they`re commonly used to replace factory clamps and i find them reliable enough.

i`d check you haven`t damaged the hose or some times you can get a dodgy clamp that doesn`t hold the pressure and strips the thread when tightened.

are the plastic tubes coming out of the bottle the same size.

Hi different size tube the top large one seems to be leaking will try and refit tomorrow. Thought at first there may have been a seam leak on the new tank but saw a drip from the pipe. Will double check havent damaged pipe tomorrow thanks for the reply. dave

hi
make sure the clips you've fitted arent too large cos if they are they'll close up in a non circular shape (more like a D shape)
the correct clips should only just fit over the pipe when fully opened out

i've seen this many times on motorbike fuel pipes

The screw type are known as jubilee clips, they usually have the range of diameter they are suited to stamped on them. Rozzo is spot on, if the clip is for a bigger range it will go D shaped and leak

I had a JK expansion tank that leaked from the seam after 8 months.
Bought a VW one for a few quid more, much better quality.

DONT try to screw then up really tight...

you may have to cut a small bit off the hose if its all deformed from 20 years before... then try and get it on a little further and fit the hose clamp partly on a fresh bit of hose..
