Is it a re-con?

Post by shepster »

I have recently got hold of a 2.1 dj, on closer inspection it appears to have had quite a bit of work done to it.

The push rod tubes look brand new, the water jacket seals look like they have been changed (lots of new black sealant around) and the rocker covers are new.

I have heard you can tell by looking at the Engine number?

Any help would be great.

if vw did the rebuild then there should be a vw in a circle stamped on the end of the engine number, sometimes there is a * at the end , it really depends on who did the rebuild ,

How it going anyway ? , told Kev that i'd help if i'm free on the fitting weekend

Cheers Mark, there is a * after the number so it looks like someone has had a go at it, i'm still at the cleaning/degreasing stage at the moment but as soon as it's ready i may well give you a shout.

Thanks again.
