Hi Guys

This is really starting to get to me now and could do with some advice.

After taking the van for a drive the other day and then parking it back on the drive at home I noticed a little bit of an oil leak which lets face it is pretty normal for an vw engine and did not think anything of it until the next morning when I went outside to see that the little leak had turn into a full blown puddle of oil, so i got underneath to have a look, it seemed to be a leaking pushrod tube which has been a problem before so i ordered some new seals and eventually got to look at it again day, so i changed the tube seals added some more oil and fired her up to see if this solved the problem,

As soon as I did oil came pouring out. So i got under her again to have another look to see what the prob was and it looks like it is leaking alot from the oil cooler, this being a type four engine having the cooler just about the oil filter.

Have anyone else had a problem with the oil cooler just failing all of a sudden? Is this normal?
Is it possible to take off the cooler with the engine still in the van or is it an engine out job, if i do need to change it where i can pick one up from?

any help, advice, tips or even just word of encouragement would be great as I really starting to wonder if all the money I putting into this van is worth the hasstle it gives me.

keep the faith!!!

PM camperclan....he had oil cooler trouble and fixed it. Don't think it was an easy job, but hw iwll know more than I!

You'll get there. testing times....but they do come to an end!

and when you drive it and the grin comes back....heck, its only money....Beans for tea, kids!!

Have you tried the oil filter seal. It might be something simple like that.
Not sure if you can access the cooler with the engine insitu but I think you probably can. There is a couple of o rings between the cooler and crankcase. If you do take it off it is a good idea to give it a good clean to improve the cooling efficiency.
If you managed the pushrod tubes I'm sure you wont have a problem tackling this job.

thanks for the advice.

Yeah I sure I could do the job of changing the seals but its just a matter of if I can get to them and if I can get a day when the weather ain't tipping it down.

I hope for my sake it is the seals as don't fancy forking out for a new cooler
