I'd like to upgrade my engine... a little advice please?

Post by Jenks »

Hello All
I have a 1985 Panel van, with a very tired 1.6 N/a Diesel engine in it.
it's smokey and slow and is going to need sorting soon. i absolutely love this van and am happy to spend a bit to get it right.
I have done a massive amount of searching on here and there is so much info i'm a bit confused.
I'm not too bothered about going fast. i just want reliable with a little more poke than what i got so i think i want a 1.6td jx engine.
is that straight forward?
ideally i'd like to be able to drive it in somewhere and have a new one put in as i can't do it myself.
what i'd like to know is what is the easyst conversion, and is there anywhere near staines/surrey that could fit/supply an engine.
if anyone can help i'd be greatful
thanks in advance.
