Van cuts out - usually going around a corner!??

Post by irishkeet »

Hi
I have a 1980 2l Aircooled westy high top

Van sometimes cuts out while driving, I've noticed that this mainly happens when turning a corner (right or left)

Van is converted to LPG but this is happening on petrol too.

When I say 'cuts out' I mean just dies battery light comes on, turn it over and im off again no probs

Have searched the site with no joy, can anyone shed some light on this problem?

check battery which is all good

many thanks

It's not unknown for this to be caused by a dodgy coil.

You havn't got an oversized bunch of keys by any chance have you?

I've had mine do the same and was really worried until I realised it was my keys getting caught in the wheel as it turned!

its not the carbs if it does it on LPG and petrol, the lpg dont use the carbs, ( well other than a funnel to pour it down) my money is on duff wiring..... try manually switching it to petrol, at the petrol cut off valve, and taking the fuse out of the LPg control switch... sounds like a signal wire prob to me.... keep your eye on the lpg lights when it does it...

try manually switching it to petrol, at the petrol cut off valve, - where is the cut off valve

and taking the fuse out of the LPg control switch. - do you mean the switch on the dash?

will post when i know what the problem is and it fixed

in your petrol line, there is a electric solenoid switch, which when you switch to lpg, switches off the petrol, it should have manual way of turning it to petrol, incase of electric failure in the system.

just switch your switch in the dash to the middle( no fuel) when you have switched the solenoid to manual.

you should have been showed this when it was installed iirc?
