gearbox compatability

Can anyone tell me if the same code gearboxes but from different years
e.g a 1988 3h box and a 1990 3h box, are compatable?
So can i put the 1990 box onto a 1988 engine or do you have to do something like adjusting the selector set up to make the 1990 box work with my 1988 engine and selector setup. Is there a difference in boxes and engines from different years.

have a word with aidan/beaker http://www.aidantalbot.com/ hes our gearbox guru.i cant see you will have any problems though.
