AAZ conversion - Best Exhaust?

Post by v-lux »

Whats the best set up for an exhaust on the AAZ?
Ive used the JX manifolds and turbo.

I have the Standard TD exhaust, but the baffles have collapsed in the muffler, so was wondering what the best option would be should i get something made up.

I know i can just buy another one the same as i have, but seeing as im going to have to spend some money on it, i would like to get something that might be better suited to the engine performance wise?

Straight through 2.5" pipe, will make turbo respond quicker.

Not that bad, mine is straight 3" and sounds ok until it hits high revs and then its sounds really good.

I agree....
Straight out exhaust, turbo breaks up most of the sound, so you just get a nice 'rasp'. My exhaust also has a turbo whistle sound, but I think thats because the exhaust gets 'smaller' towards the end....

Last 12 inches are only 48mm......this got rid of a nasty 'flat spot' I had, I guess it acts as an venturi/scavenging effect ??? seems to work though??

It certainly reduces lag, my turbo wastegate is not connected the fuelling sets the boost which is 2.25 bar at the moment.

exhausts

Post by rab-rulez »

i make exhausts and have made 4 different styles/types for my tdi and found out that
the first 1 .

i made it in 2 1/4 " tube takein the same route as origional tube and used a upgraded silencer same legnth as stock but 6" diameter with a 2 1/4" bore outhrough . this 1 held the van back a little so

2 this 1 was the same exhaust with a straight pipe in place of box and tail pipe this was way better but with absolutely no boxes means no back pressure which isnt good for the engine or the turbo oil seals

3 i made a 2 1/5" pipe directly off the turbo 90 degree down a 90 left an a 90 going back into a flexi an mounted a rs turbo box at the end this system. it woked well for power no flat spots no hold back the total pipe legnth is about 2ft long as the exhaust exitted the passenger side rear of van i ran 9.5 psi with this......... until my head gave up :x

4 the same pipe work as above with smaller box similar to a cherry bomb, but in stainless 12" long by 5" diameter this box has a trick baffle it looks like a grater inside instead of rolled perforated sheet .1 way flows turn it an it catches ( loud/quiet) ive also made a trick downpipe it replaces the 4 bolt flange and the plate behind .this part looks like a cobras head two tubes merged together form an oval piece to mount at the turbo with the corect flange .this allows your wastgate to flow directly into your exhaust rather than hittin the plate then slowing gasses then out i dont know what psi it will run yet as i am gonna be fitting it soon (need to fit a new engine first will have results in a cople of weeks) :D
I WILL GET THERE IN THE END
