it supports the end of the input shaft for the gear box as to changing it you can only really find that out once the gearox is seperated from the engine!

It's an INA needle roller bearing and costs ~£3.50 from a real motorfactors (NOT Hellfords) BUT the box, driveshafts, clutch & flywheel all have to come out to change it OR the engine of course :D believe me I DO know !!

As already explained, it is to do with supporting the spigot/gearbox input shaft at the crank end.

But unless you are going to take the box out for some other reason, or it is giving you trouble, leave well alone. It will let you know when it is 'giving up the ghost.'
If you never have a route planned ...how can you ever be lost?

It is the disk like thing around the shaft, It pushes against the clutch to release drive while you change gears, This one hasn't been fitted properly yet, you can see a bit more of one of the downwards prongs on one side.

when you would ned to change it.
preferably when hell freezes over :) I am not sure exactly what the symptoms are difficulty changing gear I suppose, but there are lots of other things that would cause that too.

Sorry mate but that aint it at all that disc thing is the release bearing !! the spigot bearing fits into the centre of the flywheel then the end of the input shaft fits inside that

Ermmm Bob, that's the clutch release bearing .... the spigot bearing's in the end of the crankshaft on manual gearbox vans. The pointy bit in the picture is supported by the spigot bearing

Silly person
