Fitting towbars

Post by Dud »

I bought a second hand Westfalia towbar last weekend. Just been trying to fit it in the wind and rain (given up) and discovered that the colours on the wires on the towbar do not seem to match up to the colours on the wires in the back of the van.

This seems very strange to me as I assumed all would be the same. Does anyone know if there was a change in wire colours at some point during the years of T25 production? (my vans an early 82, no idea of towbar age). Or is it maybe the wires have faded and I just can't recognise the colours properly?

its more likely that the tow bar has colours standard to caravans, trailers, and tow bar sockets! but not all are wired the same!! if you have something to tow, work out what wire does what onthe trailer and then transfer via the socket to yur connections!!

Thanks. That will be fun and games. Anyone have any idea what colours on the van do what (eg. any websites people know of)? Save me spending ages with the multimeter at the van end at least.

Thanks.

Have you got a Haynes? there's a simple wiring diagram in there with the relevant colours of the appropriate wires

I think this is the standard colours, of course yours could have been wired differently in the past.
