Distributor vac advance unit fitting

Post by tobzman »

Hi

I've got a new vac advance unit to fit on my distributor this weekend, the van is a 2.0 CU
My question is can the vac unit be removed/refitted with the distributor in place and without dismantling it?

I looked in my haynes last night and all that had was details of how to dismantle the distributor completely. Can it be removed without taking out the hall sensor etc?
I don't mind taking the distributor off the van and dismantling it if that's the only way but I'm feeling lazy and would rather get the job done as quickly as poss.

Cheers

Easier to whip the dist out and change..
2/3 screws on the vac unit.. undo look inside and lift vac unit arm off pin on the plate inside... fit the new one.. make sure the vac actually advances it...

Aye I'm happy to whip the distributor out to do the job but I just thought it might make my life easier if I hadn't got to mess about getting No1 to tdc etc. I guess what I was asking was IS it possible with the distributor still fitted to the vehicle?
If not I'm assuming from the previous reply that there isn't any dismantling of the distributor required? Does the vac advance plunger lift off the control arm easily without the need for access inside the distributor?

I'm thinking I'll probably remove the dizzy anyway to double check the alingment is all correct anyway.
