what's the 'standard' VW oil?

Big lumps of metals and spanners.

Is 15/40 semi synthetic ok to use? A guy near me sells it for £8 for 5 litres. It's Vauxhall branded stuff, although obviously they don't make it, it's the stuff in their shops.

What you need to look for is its API rating... up to SJ if fine... anything above....... (SK, SL)...... mmm... now this is gonna cause some contoversey..... aint up to it I am afraid.....

I wont go into details at present, but lets just say... the spec getting better doesnt mean the oil protects better... the latest SL spec has a lot less "envionmetaly harmfull" addatives removed and that means less protection for older designs of engine.... (and I suspect we will actually see more modern engines failing in the near future too)..

I know for sure the latest Mobil 1 isnt as good as the old version and BMW specs a 10w60 SG grade oil for use in all of its "M" series cars...... I wonder why!!!!!
