At my wits end....update.

Post by lhd »

Well having purchased a new vacuum pump from VW@£125,flushed and filled with Fusch diesel oil its still the same......(no vacuum for between 1&2 minutes).
Whilst at the bonfire meet it was suggested(thanks guys, you know who you are) that maybe the oil is not getting up to the vacuum pump quick enough eg. until warmed.
do you think the next step would be to change the oil pump and does anyone know how the oil circulates around the engine.

I had a customer that had this problem, eventually found out the pump was not turning due to the drive shaft having sheared

No! The drive shaft (belt driven) had sheared and was barely turning either pump (a job too big for me to take on). recommended customer to Elite

I gather rob's vacuum pump is turning and indeed once it's going it works just fine. Just doesn't do anything at first when started from cold.
