How to correctly identify a 16
I know we've covered this in some detail on the other forum but I was wondering if someone had pics of the extra strengthening on a syncro 16?
Pics of suspension, brakes and front diffs also just to see how much bigger they are etc?
Also, I was chatting to a guy in germany recently who informed me that only the vans got extra strengthening. The Crewcab and Single Cabs (if they made any!) didn't get any extra bits welded for the 16.
Is this right?
Thanks in advance.

Hehehe, no chance of dodgy 16 copies...
I'm interested as to what extra strength VW felt the 16 needed over the standard body to get rid of body flex.
I've not seen the extra strengthening bits anywhere on a website.
I guess its just interest in something I'd like to buy when I have the option. More information is a great thing!!
Thanks Andy.

I would find that rather strange, actually, from a structural point of view, indeed very strange.
Others (you knwo who) may be along to enlightne us further, but I would imagine what was meant by this is the large panels are only seen to be strengthened (plated infills) on vans - because they're the only ones that have them!
Filleting of the B-pillars I think, is it be found on DoKas, maybe SoKas too.
Think of a coupe soft-top - and think of the main area a chassis needs to have stiffness - beam bending stiffness yes (much beefier sills and floorpan beams) but torsional stiffness - a van has this inbuilt ((a functional of the enclosed skin cross-sectinal area. A Single or Double cab only has this for a part of it's length, and not all the way to the rear axle pickups, bit like a soft-top.
Early coupes were really weak in these areas - look for the door cracking near the hinges on MG B's, where the doors (when shut) become a significant contributor to preventing torsioanl and bending flexure...

Erwin and Russell,
Thanks for the info.
I've looked through as much info as I can find and as you prob know. the old forum's search function doesn't work so I can't get to old posts.
I've heard about some strengthening within the front door frame and also on the pillar where the sliding door comes up to...
Any chance of some pics?
Thanks again
