Not long had the AAZ put in, and although it has been reading normal tempreture on the gauge, the last couple of weeks the needle just moves into the white part of the gauge, and then just stops there. To me the radiator does not seem to get hot enough, hoses in engine seem to get hot. Have tried to bleed system, not sure I have done it right, but I tried! (It does say in Wiki diesel is easy?!)
All seems water tight and correct, have squeezed all hoses, no air bubbles came out of header, has not used and water in 1000+ miles, no wires loose? Not sure where temp sender is, or what to check!
Thanks................!
AAZ not reaching full tempreture

does the heater work/get hot ? is it just a case of dodgy gauge ? what about main heater/water pipes under van ? get hot ? if so check earths on gauge and clean senders on engine (cylinder head - cant miss the wires coming off- one behind injection pump on the water pipe and one at 'front' of engine- nearest gearbox -not too sure which one is gauge sender though)
obvious place to start is thermostat , (find waterpump and its the big fat hose leaving the plastic housing bolted to the pump housing) undo the 2 10mm head bolts and take out thermostat . should open at 87-88' ish . ( put in a pan of water , dangle in on a piece of string so it dosnt touch metal pan , start boiling water , should open not too long before it starts boiling .
maybe yours is stuck open / one hasnt even been fitted!!

Standard AAZ in a diesel van with no particular modification to heating system?
Does it never heat up? Even on a long haul up a steep hill or a high rev trog down the motorway?
Mine seems not very good at maintaining a reasonable temp. It's cold in the winter, warm in the summer. Obviously there are mods I do to cool it in the warm and failing anything else I can turn my heating on full wack. In the winter it really doesn't heat up very well at all, I'm thinking of moving my number plate to cover the bottom grill a bit for winter driving.
My thermostat seems to behave normally BTW. I may just replace it with a new one though incase what I observe isn't really what it should be up to.

Yes cab heater seems fine, just main rad at front does not get as hot as normal.ELVIS wrote:does the heater work/get hot ?

Found two of the three, unplugged cleaned, scrapped, checked wires, but neither made the gauge drop or move from the middle of the white box, so will try the other(s) at next light!

Does the housing have a gasket or o-ring needing replacing? so I can test it, going to go and buy a new thermostat anyhow, but nice to test now.

Yes totally standard

Yes it used to read exactly spot on, half way under normal conditions, and a touch over half way when pushed, now it just reads in the white all the time.

Temptation (and tightness) got the better of me when I replaced my thermostat a couple of months ago. I bought a cheapy one from GSF (Flussers I think) and it failed within a couple of days of fitting it. The genuine one is only about £12. I had just put in £30 worth of nice new G12 antifreeze as well. So I would agree with Elvis and buy a genuine one.
My problem was the same as yours by the way, running cold all the time. Runs right in the middle of the gauge now.
