Heating system diagram?

Post by desmond »

Hi all,

I've got under my Van to see why the heater never worked. It appears a section of pipe has been removed that joins the heater exchange to the main pipe that runs to the front.

The Haynes manual doesn't tell me anything, so I was wondering if anyone knows where to find an online diagram that shows how the heating system works?

Something like this:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/freemefromth ... eating.htm

But for the 1981 Air Cooled, 2 litre T25. As far as I can gather, I only have one heating exchange when I look underneath, not two like the bay does.

Any help would be great.

You should have 2 heat exs like in that guide - if yours only has 1 then it must have been modified. What is in the place where the heat ex should be?
That guide is pretty much spot on for our a/c T3s as well. The control panel lever pic is the only thing somewhat different - but there are useful colours and symbols on ours to help.

Thanks for your reply Keith.

I got under there again today, looking from a different angle. It appears I was a bit wrong; there are two heat exchangers, neither of them are linked to the main pipe. There is a slight difference in mine; where the main pipe comes down to the engine, it has to make a detour around the Auto Transmision box. So then, I am not sure how the Heat Exchanger on the otherside joins to this pipe, it is there though and there is a hole where it needs to be linked up.

It appears I am missing everything between the 2 heat exchangers and the main pipe. Not sure what to buy though. I may have to take this to the mechanic, who assures me he has worked on them before. (He will quote first).

Cheers for your help.
