Help with wiring please

Post by S.Richardson »

Hi I have just converted a deisel to a 1.9 DG waterboxer engine and i need help with the wiring.

I have the loom from a waterboxer petrol that I have connected to in the the rear junction box which has replaced the deisel loom and plugged into the existing connectors.
Now them can someone advise me which colour coding cable goes to what from there.

Obviously I have the connector to the dizzy plugged in as you cant go wrong there but there is a few wires that go to the carb and to a pink wire underneath the carb i need advice on which is which also which is the switch wire to the starter.

also there appears a connector tab on the side of the distributer but i dont have any further wires to make a connection here.

I need help as you can gather I am no auto electrician and i was hoping some bod in here could assist me.

Kind Regards
Stuart

Surely someone must have a 1.9 DG waterboxer that can advise what cable goes where from the junction box?

I'm no auto-electrician either but I've got the same engine so will have a look when it gets light and I'm not at work (i.e. Saturday morning - if it's not pi**ing down!) Let us know if you get sorted before then! Sorry I can't do anything before the weekend. If photos will help, I'll post some.

Tony :)

Right then Stuart I've got a few photos for you. Please note, I'm a novice when it comes to tinkering around with engines etc so my info might not answer your questions but hopefully the photos will be of some use. We've had an LPG conversion fitted to our van so we've got a few extra tubes and wires in there. In some of the photos the spark plug leads have been removed from the top of the dizzy, to try and make it a bit easier to see what's going on. If the photos are too small, send me your email address via PM and I'll send you the original, larger pics.

Tony :)

Connections on the distributor:

Photo 1: no wires on the connector at right hand side of dizzy

Photo 2: wires connecting to left hand side of dizzy

Photo 3:

The colour of the wires on that side are: brown (onto the engine casing), red/black; green/white; brown/white. The last three are the ones that go onto the side of the dizzy.

Photo 4: Those wires all come from this little unit on the side of the engine bay, next to the junction box:

Tony, not sure if this relevant BUT your's is an early DG .... Stuart's may be a late, not sure if there's much (if any) difference on the carb heater etc. I do know that the cooling system sensors and harness etc are different.

 Gulp! Oh no! Its taken quite a while to get the photos, reduce them in size and upload them all! I may as well post them now, just in case . . .

Tony

From photo 4, the loom that is third from the left (at bottom of junction box) runs along the side of the engine bay. Two black wires come from it and go up to the coil. Another two wires (one is blue/green and the other is brown) come up further along and go to the top of the coolant header tank. The rest of the wires come up here:

There are five wires:
(a) red/yellow
(b) black
(c) purple/black
(d) blue/black
(e) pink

Photo6: red/yellow goes here (for temp guage) (courtesy of Mr. Hulley's techy weekend repair!):

The black wire, (b) in the list above, goes in here via a yellow plastic connector:

The blue/black wire, (d) in the list above, goes into a yellow plastic connector, becomes a brown wire and then disappears over the back of the engine and connects to it near one of the exhaust pipes:

The pink wire, (e) in the list above, goes into another yellow plastic connector which has a red wire coming out of the opposite end and a black wire coming out of the same end that the pink wire went into:

Photo 12

Photo 13: the red wire goes down and connects somewhere below the carb, but I couldn't see where this happens:
Image

Photo 14: the black wire from the plastic connector in photo 12, goes across to another plastic connector which sends a black wire to the front of the carb and another black wire across to another connector which then goes to the right hand side of the carb:

I hope the photos get you a bit further forward Stuart. My apologies if I've been telling you about stuff that you already knew, or if you've got the later version of our engine! Good luck!

Tony :)
