Warning light?

Post by GavinSmith »

What I think is a warning light came on Saturday.

It's behind about 11.00 on the steering wheel and a red rectangle with an exclamation mark on.

I turned around and went home but it disappeared when I got there.

Everything seemed to be working OK, engine was running fine and there were no oil lights etc on.

Firstly is it a warning light? It sort of looks like a handbrake warning light on a "normal" car.

Yup, I think its your handbrake warning light (also low brake fluid warning)
Did you check your handbrake was off????
Sometimes the switch or wires (running under the carpet to the dashboard) can cause problems.
Pop the cover off the speedo to check fluid level.

You managed to see this warning light? mine is somewhere behind the steering wheel (standard T3 pas wheel). I need to relie on me noticing the severely restricted performance/burning smell before I remember to release the handbrake   .

I was thinking about wiring up a second bulb in the redundant ABS position directly above this lamp. I can't help but wonder why VW, in their wisdom, didn't put this lamp in that seemingly never used bottom right of the central cluster where all the other warning lights are?
