Water leaking from thermostat housing

Hi,

My van have just started to leak water from the thermostat housing!!

Not sure why!

Could it be the thermostat itself misbehaving?

Could it be a seal that needs replacing?

Or something else?

My van is a T3 1.9L petrol (DF engine)

The thermostat housing is the old type.

It could be any number of reasons that it's started to leak.

Either way, you're going to have to take it off & remake the seal/replace the gasket. Use a bit of RTV or liquid gasket when you re-assemble it just to be on the safe side as well.

can you see where on the housing its coming from? may be a hose connector, crackin the plastic housing OR a rubber hose may have a split, it can look like the housing but the split can be some distance away and is running down the the housing, Also where it bolts to the engine can leak too esp if it has been overtightened (to stop a leak!) and the body has cracked. If the bolts holding the top half of the housing are corroded badly they can be a bitch to do in situe for an easy (if more expensive) life get the replacement with all the bolts together and do a strtaight swap of the whole unit. Only use VAG thermostats

You've also got the sender O-rings and the O-ring between the body and the cylinder head to consider.

The thermostat housing on my T25 is the old type. No plastic there, all metal.
