Front Drive Shaft V-Ring Seals

Post by Aidan »

Been refurbishing a spare pair of driveshafts to replace worn ones on the velle and found the v-ring seals were damaged and worn so went looking for some new ones.....this is the shortened story......with pics
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/aidan.talbot/V-RingSeals/

the upshot is that we have some available for members and a solution to their non availibility from VW. :D

Good job Aidan.

I was supplied an original style seal with the new cv joint I got recently, so vw must have some stashed away somewhere. I thought I would save time by fitting the seal in vw, whilst waiting for them to finish faffing about, managed to slice my finger on the edge of the metal ring and got blood all over their desk

Cheers,
Sam.

Aidan has donated the last of the (known) genuine Trelleborg V-rings to the Syncronauts and these can be had for £6 ea. raising funds for us. There are only about 10 pairs left now.. Paypal to Syncronauts and email Jenny and Aidan will send them off then.

The VA profile ones, which are the only known replacements and don't require the steel supporting ring, are £4-50 ea. directly from Aidan.

Which prove to bes the best remains to be seen, Aidan is going to try out the VA (all rubber) replacements, maybe Russel will too. Waders should def. have these fitted, many were replaced (mine) when 'doing' the CV's or outer boots, so are missing or worn back (shot out)... the steel rings are still available.

Sam, can you find out how many sets your supplier thinks they have or can get, ta. Maybe they're just part of some OEM CV kits?
