propex not working

Post by uniB »

Hi, I've just tried out my Propex Compact 1600 as the time has most certainly come to start using it and it ain't working.

I switch it on, turn the thermostat up, the fan kicks in and flame light comes on, then after about 10 seconds the fan stops and nothing happens, the flame light is still on.

So I'm guessing it's not igniting. Gas is turned on and it's a reasonable new bottle. The red low light flashes on the zig unit when it first turns on but the leisure battery should be reasonably charged.

Any ideas, is the unit done for do you think?? :(

Steve from Gasure was trying to get mine to go yesterday.....He told me.......You need a fully charged battery before they will ignite

Mines going to Propex for repair, it won't ignite, the igniter is knacked ......They quoted me £115.00 Repaired, serviced and a 12 month guarantee & returned

Aye its knackered , best give it to me

Charge the battery or leave the engine running whist you test it , just check and make sure that the in/out lets are clear(outside the van) , also that the air inlet (inside the van) isnt blocked

Hey, thanks for the offer of disposing of it for me T'Onion, you're such a gent!

The van has been standing for about a week so maybe the battery isn't at its most charged, I'll have a drive round tomorrow and see if it works then. I'll check out the outlets are OK too.

If that doesn't work I'll see if I can get Steve to have a look at it, sure it'd make the slightly paranoid missis happier if it was prperly serviced!

The van's good cheers (looking round for some wood to touch..) Steve lowered it so it's not as pudding like now and the gear change problem just seems to have sorted itself out all by itself :D

Mull was great apart from the weather, lovely on the day we arrived and then it just chucked it down constantly for the next 3 days. We found some great places for wild camping though, in fact we tried stopping on a camp site one day but didn't like all the caravan company so headed to the wilds again. Probably try again next year - the weather can't be that bad again.. can it??

Sounds just like mine was.

Sent it to Propex
£120 later (and returned in 3 days!!) replaced a few bits inc igniter.

Fitted it and just did 4 cosy warm days on Raasay (the daddy for free wild camping).

Did find it need a proper charged battery to work tho - thus my trip to buy two new ones after work.

No it's still got the grease you put in it, I'm working on the 'if it's working leave it alone' principle!

The Propex is working - hurray - went for a drive round to charge the battery up and it ignited fine when I got back - looks like wild camping in Scotland for new year is back on again! :D

Just a little tip! we had the same probs while camping because our leisure battery was low so I connected our jump start power pack and left it connected all night and it ran our propex all night and we were like toast!

Good tip but I can't believe you can manage to sleep with the heater on all night, mine's well noisy with the fan going on, I was thinking of putting it on whilst tucked up in bed in the morning and not venturing out from under the duvet until it's heated up a bit.

I am Johnny light sleeper though!
