Whilst driving the mother-in-law back from sainsburys the other day the alternator light came on. Wans't too worried as I have 2 batteries and was only a couple of miles from home.
So, after purchasing said belt from halfords, went to do the job last night , armed only with pocket mechanic (russell) and wiki from 80-90. The water pump pulley is a double pulley affair, with the smaller outer pulley split and tensioned with shims, taking the drive from the crank, and the inner pulley driving the alternator. (2 belts)
This is where my first problem arose. I thought I had a 1.6 td JX engine, which, according to my manual should run on one belt round all three pulleys.
So, back to halfords to query the belt. They gave me another smaller one.
This will not fit either, and having removed the first belt (crank to outer pulley on water pump) it could do with replacing as well.....
SO... where do I get the correct belts? has my engine had a different alternator fitted? I looked but couldn't find the engine code on the block.. where is it? Do I have a JX engine?
HELP - I am due to go away tonight for work in the van!
Any help appreciated ~ pics or explainations of JX belts, how to ID my engine, or any tips appreciated!
