Post by camper »

On my 2ltr 1981 aircool the tinware which surrounds around the rear of the crankcase flange.Has a small duct on the bottom right that comes off it and deflects down onto the right cylinder.I have looked at my haynes manual and other parts illistrated picts and its not there. Can anyone tell me about this .It is rusted away in part its not clear how important it is.

Warm air duct

Post by cumbriankeith »

From what you describe you are probably talking about the duct that takes warm air from under the engine up to the air box and thence the intakes. Part 32 on this diag?:

AFAIK it helps the engine run nicely in cold conditions but is not that important - certainly not as important as most of the tinware. It's even more vulnerable to rot than many bits and hard to find intact - mine is a bit tatty and I've used some filler and lots of paint to nurse it along another few years.
