accelerator pedal....

Post by ermie571 »

the little bar that links the pedal to the mechanism for pulling the accelerator cable keeps coming out of its little hole in a piece of metal under the cab floor

(gosh, aren't I technical). I have to roll to a gentle halt, and replace it....

then we are away again. Drive with gentle, smooth pressure and its fine...but sommat is worn / missing. JK want about a fiver for a new bar -mine looks a little worn (a silver bit showing through all the muck) - but isn't there a clip or something to hold it on....

Take your spare out and have a look at the pedal from underneath.

The mechanism is pretty self explanatory.

Had to fix mine once, years ago, on a campsite in McGyver style with a penknife and some spit and wire ...and it held.

Can't remember now how it all goes together ...too long ago.

This diagram might help you get an idea of what is under your feet! There are some small differences between old and newer T25's / Aircooled and WBX / Manual and Auto ... but the basic setup is the same .. click on the image for a magnified view

Paper clips could be useful but forget the sellotape!

Have got parts shop on way home from work....

me thinks the worst bit will be lying underneath trying to fit it.....they are not the easiest of things......Perhaps I should buy a box....then I will have a few spare to "ping off" all round the place!!!

Thanks again for that diagram,

Circlip pliers are also useful - There are two types depending on whether the clip is internal or external. You can improvise with a normal set of pliers for an external one like the one on the accelerator assembly. Aldi came to my rescue again.

Good luck Emma and if at first you don't succeed .... yep you know the rest

wrong again.....the clip is to hold the pin in.......the push rod under accelerator pedal appears to be self-supporting! Have ordered a new one from JK.....
