Annoying cutting out problem...

Post by bobkat »

I have an 84 2.1 fi bus that doesn't like to run from cold... Runs nice after allowing it to warm up for about 2 mins....

I suspected the temp sender so have ordererd one from the dealers (on back order tho!) but lateley it also does it from warm although will idle if you let it run for around 20 seconds....

Any ideas or has anyone had this problem before...

Cheers

Bob

idle control unit?
timing?
vaccum hoses?
dirty carb?
fuel preheater?
automatic choke?
blocked fuel filter?

maybe it just needs a service and a good run.

Has had a full service and have checked all hoses, injector seals and inlet gaskets for air leaks...

Checked timing and is bang on, but have noticed that the co adjustment screw is tightened all the way in, but when you back it out even just a little it faulters evn worse then cuts out...

Exhaust smells rich..... :?

Is it just a idle problem, or does she run rough all the time. If it's the later I would suspect the air flow meter, especially if someone has had to screw it all the way in. The screw adjusts the amount of air which bleeds past the air flow meter at idle, it has little effect on the engine on full throttle ( so I have been told ), but it would indicate that something is awry.
If it is just an idle prob, I would change that temp sensor, see what happens from there.
Then theres all those idle control relays and things, try to get hold of known good ones and just swap them over and see if that solves the problem.
