Need Help- Two Issues 1989 T25

Post by shane r »

Hi

My Mrs's T25 has a couple problems that need sorting.

1) Gearbox mount. the gearbox is rattling around which I think tells me the mount is shot. Is this a relatively cheap/simple thing to fix? I do most of the work on my own T2 but this will be the first proper job on a T25.

2) The light on the speedo has stopped working. I have dug in there and noticed that it is a small bulb. The bulb doesn't seem keen to come out. IS it a simple matter of getting this bulb out and replacing it? (the bulb on the clock still works fine)

My thanks in advance

SR

Fairly simple to take it off and check if it has become delaminated. But do you really mean rattling around or moving around... If its rattling that's a different thing, and needs addressing internally usually...

I'd thorughly check your CVJs too...

Moving around, as in the box rattling on start up- definately not an internal sound.

It could be the engine mounts etc.. there are no "gearbox mounts" like a type 1/2 a front mount and the rear engine mounts are what holds it all in..

You can't change the bulb - it is attached to the holder - I assume you have twisted the holder through 90 degrees (Right angle) to get at the bulb. The original bulbs + holder assembly are available via VW Parts departments .. but you can change them for LED bulbs with a little work!

Thanks all for the replies.

So, £1 from VW meaning a dealer?

There is a large 'L' shaped mount securing the front of the gearbox. The mount has a rubber bush round the hole for the bolt & a rubber pad. This mount needed to be replaced on my van as whenever I let the clutch out to take up drive the gearbox twisted to one side.

The item you may require is:-

JK Part No. J10844 (OEM) ''Gearbox mount front manual transmission'' £83.95.

or

JK Part No. J11198 (OEM) Gearbox mount front manual transmission (Diesel) £87.48.
