Picked up a pair of trailing arms from fleabay for £50. No rust, holes or rot, totally solid just bushes that are knackered but no problem. Blasted them and repainted.
So to fully feel smug can someone in the know tell me what VW want for a new trailing arm?
Yep - your fifty quid sounds like a real bargain....
Almost as good as the pair in great nick that I got a few weeks ago for eighty something - cos I got the drums, bearings, a CV and shox thrown in as well. So we're all pleased then, innit?
VAGCAT says 255 Euro a piece which converts to £182 ... maybe it is a bit out of date!
The advantage of brand new ones is they have not been loaded up and fatigued .. you can't see fatigue damage but it is accumulating every time you drive the vehicle, especially over bumps and potholes! You have been warned!
PS .. The good news is suspension parts are tested to destruction by the manufacturer and designed for a long life - how long is the problem as we don't really know! Check welds for thin lines in the weld where cracks could be starting - paint will run in the crack which is a good way to spot them.
VW Fan Learned to drive in a T2, then drove a T1, later a T4, then a T5 (and a few Audis and Passats)
Now a proud T3 Caravelle GL 2.1 DJ WBX owner: "Dora the Explorer" .. by my reckoning, a T15 Driver! Dr T15 Speaks!
I looked at the price for a 1989 T25 - maybe they are cheaper!
