Battery move
Is it easy to move the engine battery into the hole behind the passanger side rear light? I think it will improve starting now its getting colder. Anyone done it? thanks mark

I did exactly that and it's not all that easy,for starters a leisure battery seemed to be a no go because of height,i got a ready made plastic battery box availible from caravan spares,towsure anywhere really and cut one side of it out and chucked the lid.Anchor that down making sure that your bolt/screws are covered with something to stop them damaging your battery.Found using a pre formed box the best way to hold the batt in place firmly and used the tie web around aswel.Next thing i had to do was unbolt the coolant expansion tank and move pipes/wires just enough to slide battery in,certainly aint coming out once it's in there!Just one final thing,attatch a couple of spare cables + and - and leave them cable tied up safely in case you need to ever put a charger on it for any reason.Job done.

Is there a problem with starting ?
how old is the battery? is it well maintained? are all your connections clean?
does the alternator charge properly? does the battery hold it's charge?
I would check all these things before you undo what Volkswagen spent money on researching.
or just do what scampervan did

its a easy job, mine has been like it for years......
a derv battery tray wont fit in a wbx van, but the 075 battery fits behind the ns taillight
you need a battery lead from the new battery site to the starter motor , then under the seat where the battery was, connect all the pos leads to a insulated connector , job done....
the power comes from the battery in its new site, to the starter, along the lead that did come from the battery to under the seat where the battery was, and onto the stuff it did go to........
improoves cold winter sarting no end, and gives you storage under the seat where the battery was........
no point in using 15ft of ht starter cable when 4ft will do the job better...
